Are we there yet?

It’s been a bit of radio silence over here the last few days, mostly because there’s not much to report other than I’m still pregnant.

When my mother was pregnant with me, I was born right on time, but when she was pregnant with my older brother Perry he came late. Very late. “Oh my God I may stay pregnant forever will no one believe me this has to be a world record for pregnancy he’s going to come out eating solid foods” kind of late. It’s still hard for me to wrap my head around, but my brother was supposedly due in late November and was born January 12. When my father lamented recently that Perry was “born under a bad star” because of all his poor luck, I pointed out that he was supposed to be Scorpio and ended up a Capricorn.

My mother says that she went to the doctor every week and they would continue to pat her on the head and tell her she must have counted wrong. And every week she would go home in tears, still pregnant. I find it ironic that recently that I’ve been going home from my doctor visits in tears because I am trying desperately to remain pregnant.

To add insult to injury, for the two months from November to January, my mother’s mother would call every day to ask if the baby was coming that day so she could go get her hair done and not look like a “booger bear” when she came to visit Mom at the hospital. Every. Day.

My mother told me that little tidbit in an email earlier this week. She has also called me every day this week with some random question or another just to see how things are going. When the phone rang today, Rich looked at the caller ID and said it was my mother asking if she should get her hair done.

So no baby quite yet. But I promise to let you all know when we get close, so you can call your local salons.

They induced my mom when she was a month “overdue” with me, but I came out at a whopping 7lbs 9oz. If only they’d have been patient, I could have been born on the bicentennial!

    *hugs* I’m thinking of you.

Just-wow. I feel for you-but since I really do need my hair done, well, could you hurry it up? :)

I started cruising the streets around my house looking for moon bounces when I hit 41 and a half weeks. I never did find one, but I would have been on it in a second, if I did.

Zack was a month overdue – and 9 weeks past “effaced and thin, don’t go anywhere but home & work”… he was 10lbs, 12oz at birth. The booger-head. He recently cited this fact when I was harrassing him about waiting until he was 22 to move out of our house – said “If I was so comfortable in the first place you set up for me, Mom, why would you think I”d want to leave the second one?” Ha ha.

Someone has told you that it is very normal for first babies to run late, yes? I know that poor comfort given your preferred plans but at least it IS normal.

May all of our little stories here so alarm the little guy that he decides to show his face soon.

Oh yea, my Erica was born on her due date and my OB doctor happened to be on call to deliver her. When she came out he pronounced her a girl and asked if he got a prize for guessing her due date correctly! LOL!

My neighbor told me when I was little and the whole block was waiting for her to give birth that boys are two weeks late because it takes God two weeks to design the little “weenie” just right :-)

He’ll come when he’s done “baking” :-) But I DO need a haircut :-) I’m literally tied to my phone waiting for the update!

OMG I was so sick of the “are you in labor yet” calls that started 2 weeks before my due date. I’ve been thinking about you a lot and sending happy labor thoughts your way. Much love and enjoy these final few uninterrupted meals with Rich where you get to use both hands at the same time. :)
