600 calories a day!
I am about five pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight and all my pants are now dumpy in the butt. Don’t get all jealous about that. There’s five pounds less of me, but nothing is where it was or the same consistency as before I got pregnant. Things are a lot more squishy.
Now that I’m nursing, I am an eating machine. I’m like a hobbit going from breakfast to second breakfast to elevens. I read somewhere that nursing burns 600 calories a day. I’m having a hard time finding things other than a pan of brownies that use up those calories. Who knew this could be so hard?
My rough estimate is that I’ve had about 1200 calories so far today. People say that 2000 calories a day is normal, right? So if I’m supposed to get an additional 600, I’m not even halfway to my goal. No wonder I’m always hungry!
All of your suggestions for lunch were super helpful and I’ve been rocking the leftovers this week so far. While the Healthy Choice meals are tasty, I felt like I needed to eat two so I could fill up! I never thought I could be sick of brownies, but it’s coming true.
And all the things that fill me up are typically things that I would never normally eat. Fettuccine Alfredo? I’ve avoided it for years because it normally sends my blood sugar into orbit, but now here I am stuffing my gob with it. And whenever Rich looks at me in wonder as I shovel more food in, I just blurt out, “600 CALORIES A DAY!”

The squishiness will slowly pass…or so I have been told. It has been four years almost and I am still waiting for certain parts to become less squishy.
Don’t you LOVE the whole extra calorie thing? I LOVED that about nursing.

Holy crap, I love being able to just eat whatever. But if anything it’s a struggle to stay full.

Heh – considering I ate close to 3000 calories yesterday (thanks LoseIt! app for tracking that) maybe you just need to come observe my process. And I have no such nursing excuse!
I believe it’s actually 800 a day – and what I found useful was whole milk yogurt with cream on top & hagen daas ice cream – you can take comfort in the fact that, the higher the fat the higher the calcium. Pad thai is also outstanding, and panang tofu curry. Sadly, these things are hard to adjust to living without when you stop nursing, but for now they’ll fill the hunger for at least an hour!
. I was also always thirsty – and having flavored drinks & (oh how I now miss these!!) Italian cream (real, bonafied cream!!) sodas was great.
Btw – we were introduced briefly by Megan at an elementary school night two-ish weeks ago – I’ve been enjoying your blog ever since!

First, great name.
I’m parched all the time too! Always have water with me. And my massage therapist recommended a good Thai place near us so maybe we’ll have to try that out. I still have to make her guacamole.
Glad you’re stopping by and enjoy it!

I think I hate all of you. When I was nursing Tink, I couldn’t eat anything other than graham crackers, veggies and chicken and I was still fat – despite those extra calories I was supposedly burning. I want a do over where I can eat brownies and still weigh less.

Your metabolism is a mystery to me, I swear. You should be the size of a free standing coat rack for all the things you do. This is where Karal would have some theory about your shakras being clogged.
